602 sprint car

Saw a video on Facebook from plymouth speedway, James McFadden was running a winged 602 crate engine sprint car today. Supposedly running them every week at plymouth. I'm not trying to start a bashing thread, just thought that was interesting. First Bloomington bringing the 305's and now a different "economy" sprint car class. Read somewhere that it costs $6995 for engine, complete ready to bolt in and go. Kinda interesting

Re: 602 sprint car

This car has been in the works for close to two years. we have been working with Pace Performance, Race-1 and Blackshear Racing Engines in eastern Ohio. A 602 engine car ran last season at Mercer Raceway with their local 305 cars and was competitive.
With a commitment from Plymouth Speedway to run them beginning in 2016 and my relocating to Indy our focus has been in Indiana in conjunction with Rich Farmer, Joe Gaerte and advice from several experienced sprint car people.
Rules are mostly complete pending tire testing.
There will be a public announcement in the next couple of weeks and rules will be available shortly after that.
In the meantime you can contact me at 317-416-6854 or larrykemp1959@yahoo.com with any questions.

If someone wants to provide me one of these engines i will take out my 12 degree 410 and run it a few weeks at Putnamville and Paragon to see how it stacks up to regular non wing cars. If it proves it can make the show and run competitive at those venues it could be just what the Dr ordered to grow participation. Message me if your interested.

We are in the process of collecting parts to build a 602 sprint, 2015 spike. I talked with Don Blackshear about this after reading a post in hoseheads forum and was interested. we are on the west coast in Ca. and like to see a non wing affordable class other then a 305 and keep it affordable. we are waiting for the rules and tire selection, our plans is to complete this car and possibly ship car back in time for 2016.

Re: 602 sprint car

I would support this as a viable alternative to run WITH the 305's. The previous post about running one against the 410's isn't where this motor is intended. It will never be competitive, just as a 305 isn't against 410s. It sounds like a great idea to get cars that are sitting because of engine costs to the track in a support class.

Until the guy in the 602 wants a 604. :31:

On the right track with the right conditions a 305 beat the 410s at the boss race at Fremont. A true upset.

Gotta be carefull when you are talking about Ohio 305's as majority of those guys are running bigger motors due to the fact there is zero teching at Attica or Fremont.

Maybe I'm missing something here, and don't let this sound like I'm critical of anyone trying something new, but it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to take an already under powered car and put a wing on it to make it even more under powered.

Why doesn't anyone give the CT525 a shot? They are rated at 525 hp with 471 ft/lbs. of torque and cost $7200~.
