Crickets at Eldora & 4 Crown

The silence from the Big E is deafening. The biggest race on their schedule, the World 100 is little more than a month away and nothing new on their website or anything else I’ve seen. Someone told me that Ohio is planning football games that I heard would allow 8000 people. That’s only about a third of the attendance at the World in my estimations. My worry is my favorite event the 4 Crown. Although I’ve watched it grow year after year, that number might be feasible for that event, though I think recently the attendance has surpassed that. This topic was brought up with my cronies as were enjoying ISW from Terre Haute in the garage on Flo. What if it doesn’t happen at Eldora? Would you like to see it moved and where do ya think it should move to? My bud Smit said Terre Haute, and I couldn’t agree more. What do you think?

I don't know where in Indiana you could run it aside from Terre Haute and maybe Lawrenceburg.
But many folks will b**** that Lawrenceburg is too small for the big cars. (I think the Burg is the smallest place they should go).

Either way they could run just USAC and call it the 3-Crown (not triple crown as to not confuse with the triple crown Championship)

Outside Indiana? Outside the box, kinda, Port Royal.

Seen several races from Port during this deal, and I call it flat Eldora because it races in a similar way.

Re: Crickets at Eldora & 4 Crown

I know several people in OH that I speak with regularly, and the general info from them is that the Ohio Governor is the one preventing Eldora and many other businesses from holding events. Several of my Ohio friends are speculating that the Ohio Governor will mandate another shutdown in early August (i. e., next week) if the rising COVID cases don't start declining.

I live in Columbus, and I don't see Eldora opening this year. Governor Dewine is itching to shut everything down again. hope im wrong.

flagboy55 8/2/20 11:10 AM

I hope you’re wrong about another shutdown. Not just for racing but every other person and business adversely affected by it. I’m guessing among most common folk in Ohio the governor is not very popular?

State of Ohio forced IndyCar to cancel/postpone this weekend's double header at Mid-Ohio.
Thinking Four Crown at Eldora looking less and less likely...darn it!

The business I work for was scheduled to go to a 3 week quarter horse show in Columbus starting in October, it has been cancelled.

That horse show brings more tax dollars into the state then any other thing, including the piss poor NFL and MBA.

Crickets, is that yet another class of race cars? Might be interesting, or not!

Re: Crickets at Eldora & 4 Crown

My boss told me it brings in about 180 million to the state, that's quite a loss in revenue.

treecitytornado 8/3/20 10:03 PM

The 4-Crown belongs at Eldora,ONLY!! Frustrating why Eldora hasn't tried to open, other than the Late Model Virtual Dream with No Fans.

Ohio Sprint Speedweek, raced all over Ohio, yet Eldora didn't open the Gates, even at Reduced Capacity.

Very disappointing & frustrating!

openwheelfan1 8/3/20 11:51 PM

I believe Eldora HAS tried to open. I read that their plans for racing the Dream, the Kings Royal and the “Dirt Derby” were denied by the state. Due to the spectator capacity of Eldora, they are forced to submit their plans for COVID 19 compliance to the state, unlike the smaller tracks (i. e., the Ohio Speedweek tracks) which only require local approval.

I’ll almost guarantee the state will keep Eldora shutdown, but will allow spectators at the big horseshoe in Columbus, OH come Sept.

treecitytornado 8/4/20 12:04 AM

That's my point, if Eldora stayed at the Capacity limits during Ohio Sprint Speedweek, like all the other tracks, they should be allowed to open & race!!

Unless Tony, decided if we can't open with as many people as possible, we are remaining closed.

On another note, the IndyCar races at Mid-Ohio this upcoming weekend were just postponed to later in the season, if to be run at all.

In far Western Ohio they announced today crickets will be the only ones in the stands at the Indy 500.....

bvall24 8/4/20 8:28 PM

The below link, from June 29, outlines what Eldora Speedway officials went through to try to open the track up to events. Their first submission for 50% capacity was shot down as well as their second submission of 17% capacity. The state labels Eldora as a “large venue” and will not allow these venues to operate with fans in attendance. The other tracks you mention are not considered large venue.

The news today from Indy is terrible. Maybe some of you could explain it so I can grasp it. You could probably fit 50 thousand people in the speedway and still keep everyone 10 feet apart. In my opinion there’s another agenda at work here. Please correct me if I’m wrong

treecitytornado 8/5/20 3:07 AM

Sounds like Ohio Government needs to get their head out of their a**, if that's the case!! Easier to Social Distance at a bigger venue! It's Not Rocket Science!

Maybe I’m missing something but still nothing from the Big E. I’m sure they are trying to make something happen with the World’s Hundred now less than a month away. Anyone else have any clue as to what might be happening? I’m figuring nothing is going to happen and I feel bad for Eldora and all the fans. It seems to me however that an early cancellation might free up dates for races at other tracks not to mention fans who take time off to attend might be able to change their plans. Don’t get me wrong, I want it all to happen but time is running out.

Eldora announced this evening that the 2020 World 100 will not run. They are going to run a live stream Late Model event with no spectators that weekend, but no World 100.

Pure speculation on my part, but I doubt the 4 Crown will happen this year.

flagboy55 8/12/20 9:04 PM

Open wheel fan I saw that. And yes I agree anything else is dubious

flagboy55 8/18/20 6:37 PM

So the crickets are drowned out at least for a moment with the announcement of a big Allstar race there Tuesday and Wednesday the 22nd & 23rd of September. Although the 4 Crowns are not yet officially cancelled I would have to believe this spells the end for this year. One can only hope TONY and USAC can put a fanless event for them too

treecitytornado 8/23/20 3:33 AM

4-CROWN is unfortunately, definitely cancelled! No WoO on Friday or USAC & All Stars on Saturday.

The big 2 Day ASCoC Sprint show called the, Governor's Cup, will run on Tuesday & Wednesday will culminate with a $50,000 to Win $1500 to start A-Main on Wednesday night.
Tuesday is a standard WoO Type Payout at $10,000 to Win & $800 to start.

I'm sure several WoO Teams, ASCoC Regulars, plus independents like Kyle Larson will no doubt try to cash in on $60,000 over the 2 Day show.

48 Cars Maximum Allowed. NO FANS!

Flo Racing only on the Webcast Only. Sure wish MAV TV would show it LIVE!

The friday night portion is canceled according to the outlaw schedule.

the 4 Crown is clearly still on the USAC schedule. let's pray for a miracle. add Kyle Larson to the line up in your divine intervention :8:

brsteg 8/24/20 2:25 AM

All*Stars no longer have Eldora listed for that Saturday night. The 4 Crown as we knew it definitely cancelled.
Would they run USAC only divisions in front of no fans on Flo? No idea; maybe.

flagboy55 8/24/20 7:28 AM

Big topic of conversation with me and our gang in the garage yesterday as we took in the 500 and the Hoosier Hundred. We’re hoping for a miracle also but not very optimistic. The Intercontinental Classic which is the substitute for the World 100 is limited to 48 teams. The Governor’s Reign which has been scheduled for the Allstars 4 Crown week is also limited to that number. I wish that was per class but I have to believe it’s total number allowed with no support classes scheduled for either event. Would take some creative thinking to come up with a way to do it. Hopefully they come up with something. We’re still lobbying for a 3 Crown at Terre Haute if Eldora can’t figure something out. Either way I hope definitive decisions come soon so I can figure out if I can do something different with vacation time and maybe go to another race or to that I hadn’t planned on going to
