Westfall Scores 4th BOSS Win of 2018 in GLDN

Westfall Scores 4th BOSS win of 2018 in GLDN

The second running of the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals is in the books. Matt Westfall of Pleasant Hill, Ohio took command early and led the 25 lap main event wire to wire to make BOSS history. He is the first driver to win 4 main events in one season on the tour. Aboard the Ray Marshall Motorsports #33M, Westfall won back to back at Route 44 Speedway and Waynesfield Raceway Park on July 6-7. He then won the August 3rd event at Atomic Speedway and finally, made histpry last night .

Thirty-one traditional wingless sprint cars registered for competition. In hot laps, Scott Hardman from nearby Ashalnd, Ohio, made contact with the first turn wall and flipped. He was unhurt. Group qualifying among heat race groups found Mike Miller, Bill Rose, Cody Gardner and Clinton Boyles setting fast times respectively. Gardner was quickest overall with a 18.134 second lap.

Heat race action saw the front 4 cars inverted with the top 2 finishers moving on to redraw. Dustin Ingle, Bill Rose, Ty Tilton and Luke Hall won their 8 lap heats. The 15 car B-Main was won convincingly by Mike Miller. Behind him, an 8 car free-for-all ensued over the final laps fighting for the final transfer positions leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

In the 25 lap A-Main, Westfall and Luke Hall brought the field to the green flag. The pair waged a torrid battle early, before Westfall motored out to a moderate lead. Bill Rose, Dallas Hewitt, Tyler Gunn and Chad Wilson were the 4 cars making moves toward the front. Ty Tilton was able to slip past Hall for 2nd and appeared to be the only threat to Westfall. Only one caution would slow the event, when Paul Dues had a mechanical failure that put him into the inside wall.

With only a handful of laps remaining, Westfall was able to pull back to a slim lead on the restart and held on to score the win. Ty Tilton held on for second with series points leader Bill Rose finishing 3rd. Dallas Hewitt and Michael Fischesser completed the top 5. Cody Gardner, Luke Hall, Tyler Gunn, Clinton Boyles and Kory Crabtree rounded out the top 10.

The next BOSS traditional wingless event is Saturday, August 25th at Kokomo Speedway as part of the finale of the "Kokokmo Sprint Car Smackdown".

Next Saturday, BOSS will sanction only its second ever WINGED sprint car event at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Indiana on August 18th.

Re: Westfall Scores 4th BOSS Win of 2018 in GLDN

Only one question, Why was it 25 laps instead of the as advertised 30?
