NASCAR Cup Race @ KY Speedway 7/9/11

I saw this announced today and was wondering if it will affect ISW in any way - for the better or worse or not at all?

you couldn't give me a ticket. As for ISW I say raise the price and the purses :) Might be one week long show still better (Knoxville) But thats about it.

My point is this. If this Cup race is the same weekend as the start of ISW, would that hurt or help attendance at any ISW events, especially that Saturday night?

I couldn't care less about Cup at KY Speedway personally.

Lawrenceburg for sure. Especially for fans who book motel rooms.

they've had the nationwide race and truck races same night at burg races. Didn't hurt much if at all

Re: NASCAR Cup Race @ KY Speedway 7/9/11

I dont think it will affect ISW much, but that is real close to when the Brickyard is. I am not a big fan of the Brickyard 400 but it does have a huge impact on the local Indy economy. I was not able to park many cars in my yard this year for the race. Now with a cup race so close to indy and a few weeks before they run here, NASCAR just screwed IMS! JMO

Nationwide and Truck races do not draw squat for crowds in comparison to a Cup race. A NASCRAP Sprint race could cause problems.

When Ky tried for a Cup race at first didn't NASCAR balked because of being so close to Indy they thought it would hurt the attendence, now they have them schedule 3 weeks apart. Time sure have changed, will be interested just to see how this plays out in attendence for Indy.

Will the BY 400 date be moved in '11? I guess it would be on July 31 if they don't?

I'm thinking if they have ISW at the 'burg on July 8th, maybe some of the NASCAR crowd could wander over that Friday night and put some a$$es in the seats.

Just thinking out loud here.

I’d love to see it for Dave’s bottom line.

As a fan however, keep hard-core Ricky Bobby fan as far away from me as possible. Let’s just say I find their track etiquette lacking.

Gregg, according to an unofficial Nationwide schedule they have them at O'Reilly July 30th so as now I would say the BY 400 will be July 31st unless Nascar changes the schedule.

I believe you're talking about standing room only, even when there are plenty of places for NASCAR fans to sit?:3:

The last thing that we need at Indiana Sprintweek is Cooter & Bubba standing in front of you blocking your view and showing trouser cleavage all night.:( :37: Worse yet, they would be hollering boogity, boogity, boogity, getter done:19:!:15:

IMO, I think you might get alot of new hardcore race fans at the Burg on that Friday if that is the date for I.S.W., Alot of them having not seen a Real Sprint car race, with the result being instead of hardcore race fans you will have hardcore Sprint car fans.

As for Kentucky Speedway, congratulations on your Cup date. I actually 8 years ago went to Ky for a Busch series race with Tommy Bipes. (Free 65 dollar tickets) Lap 86 he looked at me and said: " Ya know Dave, if we leave now we should be able to catch the Sprint feature at L-burg". In 15 minutes we were in the car and looking back at the grandstand. Nuff said!

From a personal standpoint, it will affect me driving to and from Lawrenceburg. The traffic on all the Interstates is sure to be horrific. If I don't come to Lawrenceburg via I71, I will have to take US50 all the way, which is not a great option.
I have problems every year for the April USAC race because of closure of the Interstates in Louisville for the Derby festivities, now NASCAR is going to screw up the ISW race with this scheduling.

No, it was not the Indy race. IMO Napcar does not want a longer season, I know the driver's all want a shorter one. The people that built Ky don't own it anymore. Bruton Smith of Charlotte fame owns it now and has moved one of his races from Atlanta to Ky.

I wouldn't go even if I was promised to be escorted to the track, had an all expense paid suite and got to wave the green and checkered flags.....

I would rather host a bunko night at our house for my wife and all her friends...........

I would rather go to a NAACP rally........

I heard that there will be a Nationwide race at KY on 7/8, which would be the same time as ISW at the 'burg? If so, it may keep the NASCAR Goobers away from the sprint car race. Goody.

BTW, Cincinnati's Carol Williams on WCPO Channel 9 news last night reported that KY Speedway was finally getting the SPRINT CAR race they have been hoping for.:17:

If you are a citizen of Indianapolis or Speedway you should care a lot. The Brickyard pours 20-30 Million dollars into the local economy. That equates to good roads, good schools, etc....

Your Diehard fans are going to go where ever. I.E. the diehard sprint car fans will be at the burg. Now where it hurts the burg.... KY Speedway is know for giving away tons of free tickets for races or even selling them really cheap. The average race fan is going to grab the free tickets and go to the napcar show. The good thing, the schedule is in usacs hands so we know it will get screwed up. Actually my main thought or comment on this topic, isw is always changing. Changes tracks, changes dates, why worry about it now? lot of races between now and then. :31::32:

Bob my comment wasn;t about the good the race is for the local economy but was about how boreing the race itself is I find it great for a YAWNNNN nap:29:
