Open wheel veteran & champion Sam Sessions
Hello IOW racing friends,
Looking through some of my old racing memorabilia, I came across this old racing news clipping about Sam Sessions winning his first supermodified race at Oswego Speedway, New York - A Few Years Back in the 1960's. Sam Sessions was a champion open wheel driver and fan favorite. Have a good day...see you at the races Rich - Arnold, Missouri NOTE: Bucky Bucholtz was an alias name for another open wheel champion Ronnie Lux http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...can0002-15.jpg |
Re: Open wheel veteran & champion Sam Session
In the 70's used to watch him race every Sunday night at Kamamazoo speedway. Not sure of the year he died in a snowmobile race. Also his son raced for a few years.
I always like him, he was very nice to us kids in the pits after the races. I thought it was cool that a local driver who had raced in the Indy 500 was racing at our local track. |

Have a good memory of Sam 1 day @ Trenton after a Champ Car race.
After the race, a buddie & I went to the pits, & ended up @ Sam's pit. He was sitting on the pit wall & telling a story (I don't remember about who or what) & had us all laughing so hard we almost wet ourselves. He was a good guy, mlight9 |

Sammy died in a snowmobile accident on December 17, 1977 in Alexandria, MN.

I watched Sammy race USAC sprints at Eldora in the 70's.

Bucky Bucholtz, wasn't that Ron Lux?

SteveE,
Yes, Bucky Buckholtz was Ron Lux. I made a note of that when I posted the Sam Sessions news clipping in my post above. Have a good day...see you at the races Rich - Arnold, Missouri |
Re: Open wheel veteran & champion Sam Session
Sam drove the Dowker/Ace Bolt and Nut Roadster Supermod from Charlotte,Mi. (my home town) late in his career. It was a very sharp car. His son Jerry raced several years with SOD. Last I knew he still lived in Nashville,Mi. and was president of the school board. Nice guy.
