Weekly terra haute show

I already know that a bunch of folks, are going to cry about this post, talk about safety, or money, or some other crybaby crap. But a nonwing sprintcar, is meant to run on a half mile. There should be a weekly show at terra haute, period. And it should get extreme support. And a big purse.

You're not here for an honest debate if you start your post with saying anybody that disagrees with you is a crybaby. With that said, it's just not practical. You need weekly racers to support a weekly program. Most of these teams are teams that don't have unlimited resources. Why would a car owner in this area ask for the wear and tear that racing on the big half mile will get him/her, for $1500 to win, when they could go compete on a track every week the size of LPS? The big stars and teams are on the road with USAC, MSCS, etc, so they won't be there most weeks. And the hardcore fans will mostly be where the big race that weekend is happening. What promoter's going to take the financial risk under those circumstances? This great track has been a "Special Event" track for over a half a century. And it always will be.

while that would be awesome. not sure you would get enough support from the teams, with LPS and Paragon on saturday your only real options would be friday or sunday. I do think Terra Haute needs more than just 4-5 races through-out the year but i don't think they could sustain a weekly show

Perris, in California, has no problem doing it. And in the 70's, Calistoga Speedway ran a weekly show, and it was the best racing in the country.

Gerry Olsen tried it when he had the track and the FANS didn't support in the numbers needed to keep it going. Don't blame Olsen as he did spend his money to try to make a weekly series. He did more than just about every keyboard jockey out there to promote races. Cars didn't support it either. Perris doesn't run weekly as fans and cars are coming in droves for that to happen and what happen in the 70's is just that, it happened. Very few 1/2 mile tracks have weekly shows. you can count them on one hand.
Our racing is a dying sport. enjoy and support your local tracks while they are here. There is too much for people to do and the cost of everything in the sport keeps going up for the tracks, fans and racers.

Look what happened to the car count at the Burg and it's not even a half.

What happened at the Burg? 39 sprints? and Im guessing a few didn't come because of very iffy weather. A couple others had trashed cars.

What D.O. Said, is the sad truth. Something has got to be done. Nonwing sprintcar racing fans, are ohmost like a "small town" there should some sort of union. Where people help each other. With enough support, 50 people could get together, and rent a bus, for races at say, terra haute. As part of a union, or club, folks should help each other. To some, it might sound silly, but as a union, everyone could pitch in, and buy say, beef, and food, in bulk. Keep it stored in a big freezer. People might laugh, but if people help each other, it would be a lot easier to get to the races.

I believe Bobby is refering to the topic at hand here, Charles; nothing to do with sprint week.
