Phillips Motorsports ISW Special

I put this on our Phillips Motorsports #71P Facebook page, but thought I would put it on here as well:

We have a special deal for Indiana Sprint Week, which is coming up in a few short weeks. For each of the Indiana Sprint Week nights, we are offering to you the chance to be part of the Phillips Motorsports/Dave Darland team for the night for $500 for the night. For the $500, you get: 1) One free pit pass; 2) Dave Darland T-Shirt; 3) Your Name on the side of the car; 4) You are... part of the crew for the night; 5) an autographed picture with you and crew and Dave Darland. If we go to Victory Lane, you will be there as well! We know some nights will go fast, so don't be left behind! First come, first served on this deal - only one per night. Send me a message on what day you are wanting to attend, along with your telephone number. I'll contact you personally on other specifics (including where to send the check). Thanks for your interest!

Remember to "like" our page as well.

Very innovative idea! Would be pretty cool to go to victory lane with DD!

Got a couple of dates taken! Don't be left out, contact me now and be part of a USAC team during Indiana Sprint Week.

HARFprez 6/26/14 4:10 PM

Brilliant idea, a bit pricey, but all of those "fantasy camp" type things are. You are almost guarantee someone (or 2 or 3) is gonna have priceless moments in Victory Lane with DD and the 71P team, some of the best in the business.

You're really not that funny. They're offering fans a great opportunity to be part of the team during a sprint week race. It's an experience they'll never forget.

Do they get to go to the carwash after?!

Love the idea of getting someone involved with a behind the scenes experience that they would not get by purchasing a pit pass on their own.

It sure would be cool to be in victory lane pic with dave when he breaks Bigelow's record.......................................:22:

Only thing better is when you show up and keep him from breaking bigelow's record. Lol. Hope to see you at sprint week. Thanks for all the great things that you have done for us non wing race fans. Job well done .

Levi - if you want to help us out at the car wash afterward, that would be great! LOL

Sure, if our honored guest of the night wants to help at the car wash, who are we to take that away from them!

Yea that's the real fun going to the car wash after the races.... Just go ahead and include that in the pkg, also teach them to mount and groove tires make sure they get the full affect of what it's like to work on a car.

Neat idea and I'm sure the every day fan will have a blast.

One of my fondest memories (although I didn't think much of it at the time) was standing in the hot sun in the Eldora Pits helping Rich Vogler figure how to mount the just-introduced bead lock system that comprised a very stiff inner tube that didn't want to stretch enough to get over the rim.

Still time to come join us have some fun and maybe see the other side of a race team. I promise to be on my best behavior ,dam that may be the toughest part of sprintweek lol.

robert gatten 6/30/14 9:21 AM

You should include their own personalized mud scrapper to take home. ;)

dirt in ur beer 6/30/14 12:08 PM

And now the FUN part ... I'm gonna teach u how to grind tires . You're gonna LOVE this!

Bill Gardner 6/30/14 12:35 PM

Every time I see someone grinding tires especially sprint car tires... I laugh, shake my head and think what a dumb idea.

dirt in ur beer 6/30/14 1:04 PM

I agree! Sounds like a gd idea for a new thread.

My earlier response wasn't really about grinding tires. I guess you could say it was my fatal attempt to spell B U M P S

Just as this post is supposed to do.

Teams should do this every week they race. Gets fans interested and you might find some new help.

Believe it or not, we have only sold one race - Kokomo! Hopefully we have some fans out there that want to be more involved! Yes, you can have a beer with Dave after the races!

I can understand why only 1 has been sold Its a very good idea but the majority of ''average" fans cannot afford $500.

You are correct that is a lot of money for anyone probably is for a fan who is passionate about trying to help a small team be able to keep one of the great drivers out there competing. The smaller teams are finding it harder to keep going. Fact it takes $1500 a night to be competitive at a sprint week show times 7= more than 10,000 for sprintweek. This why some help would be great from a fan or person who has a business willing to help. Cost is why we are seeing fewer and fewer car owners who hire drivers of Daves caliber. I know it costs the average fan a lot to so hope everyone can attend some of sprintweek and see these great drivers before they are gone. Thanks to all who keep this sport going.

VSneader2 7/1/14 4:36 PM

I think it would be a bit better at $250 a night and even that is alot. its a great idea but like what was said earlier $500 is a bit steep for the average fan. Especially when you figure a pitpass and a shirt will run you no more then $60.

Re: Phillips Motorsports ISW Special

I'm very saddened that we tried to promote our team and get some additional funding by giving a great opportunity to some of Dave Darland's fans, as well as our team, and it has turned into people complaining about the price. My husband and I work very hard to keep this team going mostly with our own money. Believe it or not, with the success we've had, we still haven't gotten a large sponsor - meaning anyone over $10,000. So, sorry if you feel the $500 is too much. We thought it was a great idea, and we still are offering it so anyone. We have one great fan out there that has already paid, and we plan on making it a night to remember for him!

I appreciate Bill Gardner for trying to keep promoting and bumping our post, and others who have been supportive.

What I would like to recommend to all people who post on this site, like my mom always said, "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all!". Too bad people don't take that to heart and do so.

Better to sell 7 @ $250 than 1 @ $500...jmo

Ya then the next comment will be $250 is stupid should be $125 then the next comment will be you should pay them to be there and so on and so on. I bet some of the keyboard drivers running there mouth wont even attend sprintweek. I think I call the Colts tell them I want to be on sideline next season for free wonder what they say. I thought posting here might be ok but like almost every other post you get bashed its just IOW I guess. I am over it.

Here's a idea though. If you can't afford to do the one night associate sponsorship/team member deal. Any Amount a fan could give will help the team get to the next race. Go up after the races and Give em a 5-10-20-50-100 dollar bill. It adds up.

They offered a package, Its not the only way a typical fan can help. I think its a neat idea and worthwhile if you can do it, If ya can't. Thats ok too.

Carla and Steve, It's appreciated that you guys and all the teams work their tails off. Good luck Friday and at Sprintweek! :) Don't let a few get your spirits down. Hope to see you guys in Victory Lane many more times!

Thank you really car owners get little praise for the good but always hear the bad. Thanks for the kind words. Now lets get back to the ugly

on_the_edge 7/2/14 2:11 PM

I'm gonna say the $500 was calculated by the Phillip's before they brought this idea up. Yes $500 is a lot for your average fans but some can afford it and really $500 doesn't cover many expenses in a night. 2 rear tires pretty much wipes out that $500. Hopefully more fans sign up and help keep the 71p on the USAC tour.

grumpy racer 7/2/14 2:40 PM

Lets see if I can get this going. It has come to me this winter, and I have been on my soapbox since. In sprint car racing I beleave performance no longer matters. Because of social media you can attract sponsors without results if you use social media. How can I make this statement well there are teams out there who really struggle racing who pull in 5or6 figures but struggle to even make a big race. There are others who not only make but win them on almost no sponsorship cause that are social media challenged ie our team or good example Hazen 57 what could Paul and Chad do if they had a wheelbarrow of money. But then when we ask for a little help we get crap ,where, social media. I remember this winter the Darland Deal for ARCA and all the keyboard racers who were going to help. Someone did the math and if everyone of these dif what they said there was almost 80,000 I understand less than 3,000 showed up. Then when the owner spoke on IOE was blasted for seeking help from fans. This in my opinion was so wrong on all accounts. So come on folks get the bashing going we ate only half way to the veiws records
