After seeing that abc sports clip of Opp at Terre Haute several times, I would like to see all those guys racing there in the late 60s and early 70s.

1963 Indy 500, first 500, I was there but so young I don't remember much. Parnelli was my racing hero after that win.

Having been to what remains of the track a handful of times, and in looking at vintage photos and video from the day, I would choose Jungle Park. Don't have a particular date/race/event, but attending any race during the tracks heyday, with a stellar field of drivers, would be cool for sure!

openwheelfan1 10/12/17 10:39 PM

I would have liked to have seen the 1971 USAC Sprint race at Winchester when Bettenhausen started last in the second twin 50 in Dickson’s former ride and with a last lap, last turn pass won not only the race but the championship.

Any race that my grandfather raced at Bloomington in the 50's! I lost him when I was 7 and didn't get to talk racing with him. I don't have many memories of him but I do remember watching the 86 Indy 500 with him and dad! Dad and I have NEVER missed one since!

Probably any of the early USAC Champ Car in the 1970's races at DuQuoin. Pictures show the place absolutely packed with the like of Andretti, Foyt, and Unser still running dirt

Any race on a mile dirt with Hewitt, Gurney, Bettenhausen, and Hood running the dirt cars. Or A race with Hurtubise in a sprinter.

Don't remember the year but it was the "mystery feature" at Knoxville nationals between Jack Hewitt, Rick Unger, and T.J. Giddings. A battle royal didn't have that much action!

Re: If you could go back in time and watch a race.......

My first memories of racing at Winchester on the high banks were many duels between Spider Webb and Johnny Shackleford . The brave only raced at Winchester and these 2 were part of that group. This would have been back in 1947, 1948 and 1949.

1977 500 when Foyt won his 4th. I went camping in the U.P. in Michigan and it was cold. 9 hrs north of Indy. Listened on radio that day and haven't missed a 500 since.

B) Fast Freddy Rahmer beating WoO from back row at WG (2009?) I have the video, but they don't show Freddy till he's close to the lead
C) I know, its a wing race. Can you find it in your hearts to forgive me? ;)

These are the stories I grew up on. My parents followed the champ cars everywhere back then. Dad raced go karts and some stock car and TQ stuff but they loved the champ cars. The whole reason I love open wheel dirt racing so I would love have seen any of them.
