Saw this last night. Kind of sad he was an @*$

He’s selling everything and is looking for bids to level the track. What a sad situation. He’s definitely got a screw loose.

I always liked that track. I don't know if a person could make money there even if they got it for free. It has been there for a long time, so maybe someone did. Probably in the era when I was a kid, and it was Henry's Speedway. Anyone remember when the American Indy Car Series ran there?

Sad truth is there are too many tracks for the amount of cars and fans out there.

I went there three times when it was KAMP the racing was great. the dust, not so much. Three lanes Look up 2009 sprint week Kamp. Hell of a race.

ronmil 11/15/23 11:46 AM

I guess this is the same guy who races sprint car 3.14 at Haubstadt and ran for mayor of Evansville

cowboyhar69 11/15/23 11:47 AM

I remember it being rock city the two times I was there.

oppweld 11/15/23 11:56 AM

Went there once or twice. Could be a great special event track if done right!

Another one bites the dust. I'd agree with Chuck to a point, yet the closing of racetracks doesn't seem to lead to an appreciable increase in car count or attendance at other places.

Our is an industry that has its own issues, just like other businesses out there.

PJ Wright 11/15/23 1:15 PM

Kind of off topic since it's not in Indiana, but I found out last week that another track, 411 Speedway in Seymour TN, is having their last race ever at the end of this month. For me personally I hate that it's closing because it's only about 15 minutes from my daughter's house.

Yes Ron, it's the same guy. Not sure how you can successfully run a track over 3 hours away and different time zone. From the closure, I guess you can't.

I should have known that. I just checked the Facebook page and I found I had posted on there. I went to several races there when it was Kamp Motor Speedway. I remember Kevin Studley having a wild crash in qualifying that slung parts into the grandstand area. Fortunately no one was injured. I remember the cows seemed to enjoy the races.

I have to recind a statement I may have made in the past, I may have said I never met a track I didn't like, Kamp was not good as dirt or pavement!

I was there for ISW. Horrible place. More than dirty, filthy.

I raced there when it was paved and raced there when it was dirt, never got excited about going to this place. Way out in the boonies, just farm land and not many people. No big deal that this track is closing.

Been to Kamp a few times. Saw some good races. Like others have mentioned, it’s just in a bad location.

I stopped to take a look at the place in 2001 after a USAC race in Joliet. The track was called Benton County Speedway at the time. It was a Saturday morning and the promoter was there. I thought the place looked neat. It was more of a circle. It seemed to me it had more banking then. Black dirt. I asked the promoter why he didn’t run more sprint car shows. He said that he ran an IRA show once and took a bath on it. He told me that the area's economy wasn't very good and had no population to speak of. This was over 20 years ago and I’m sure the things in the area haven’t improved much.

When the Kamp’s purchased the track, they shortened it a bit, put more of straightaway on the frontstretch. Brought in red clay. I grew up in the Northeast and the track really did remind me of Flemington NJ in how the cars attacked it. Saw the first MSCS show there in 2004. The track was tacky and fast that night. Almost too fast. I got there late and pulled into the parking lot just as Shane Hollingsworth was sailing out of the ballpark in turn four. I remember the feature itself was really exciting with Danny Williams Jr winning.

Sad to see yet another track go. Glad I got to see some races there.

Yeah, sad to see any track close. It IS way out in the boonies, though. . . I did like what I shot there and also saw an amazing race that DD won by the skin of his teeth. The place reminded me of a small version of Eldora (see photo). Being inside, I missed the flying rocks, but my wife told me about them. https://live.staticflickr.com/3201/2...1d9d1044_c.jpgKamp by Carey Akin, on Flickr

Race we're talking about nobody could tell who won. Boat, Darland and Whitt three wide, multiple laps.
