USAC/L. Jones penalty
APPEALS PANEL RESCINDS LEVI JONES PENALTIES
The Chief Judge of the USAC Court of Appeals has rescinded the penalties assessed to driver Levi Jones and car entrant Tony Stewart Racing as a result of an incident arising from the August 25 “Sprint Car Smackdown” USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car race at Kokomo, Ind. which also involved driver Jon Stanbrough. The appeal held October 17 and chaired by Chief Appellate Judge Jeff Stoops dealt with penalties originally assessed according to guidelines of USAC competition rule 10.28 regarding unsportsmanlike conduct. As a result of the appeal, both the 25-point National Sprint Car entrant penalty assessed to Tony Stewart Racing and the 25-point National Sprint Car driver penalty assessed to Levi Jones have been rescinded. The panel reviewed facts and information available to them. Based on the lack of material and or video evidence to review along with statements made by USAC Officials in charge of competition for the event, the panel agreed that a penalty judging intentional driver conduct during competition could not be enforced. |
Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
Wonder if it would have went down like that had he not been done for the year with the surgery.

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
Shocker..............

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
The last line of the press release says it all. "the panel agreed that a penalty judging intentional driver conduct during competition could not be enforced". USAC may as well take the rule out of the rule book as it is only a waste of paper and ink. The precedence has been set and now the drivers will have to take that into consideration and handle it themselves.:31:

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
This makes no sense to me at all... Why is USAC stirring this up again?? He got penalized,,, and (some) people moved passed it. Why not keep the penalty enforced and let the issue go away?? Levi's season was done anyway!
USAC sucks. You all better stay consistent is all I'm saying. If the worst driver in the series dumps your poster child next year, and theres no video proving it... Better stay consistent... Absolutely blows me away.... That was BY FAR the ugliest move toward another driver I had ever seen. Lack of evidence?? Ask anyone, hell Levi admitted to it. Are you kidding me. How many times have you seen Jon Stanbrough get pissed? |
Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
So that means Robert Ballou is the only one that has been penalized in the last how many years?

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
my question would be did mr jones stand to gain any point positions in year end points by usac changing their mind about the penalty?

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
Well i'll be a suck ass mule!!

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
With this move, Levi Jones now moves from 6th to 5th in the USAC Sprint Car point standings.
Plus, it moves the #20 car, which is in 2nd place, 25 points closer to the #7 team for the Owner's Point Championship. |
Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
Maybe WWE can by USAC and bring back Thursday night racing on TV and call in Thursday night smackdown.

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
Sounds like there's some money being thrown around behind the scenes. USAC continues to kick themselves in the teeth.

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
More USUC bull$hit !!!! I wonder if they will go back to 1993 and rescind Steve Butler's (unjust) penalty? Oh wait a minute....they already ran him off with a sour taste in his mouth!

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
I wasn't there (At the hearing) but remember what I said & got hammered for by Funk & Vukie???
Sprinterfan, Would Levi's season been over If this didn't happen. If his neck was that bad it should have been taken care of earlier because all it would have taken is a wrong hit or bump & he could have been in a wheel chair or dead. Ya all don't seem so hip on ol Tony all of a sudden. |
Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
In defense of USAC, let me say...ummm....well.....ummm, gee look at the time, gotta run.

Tumey's 55, There were a few apparently that knew Levi had neck issue's but I didn't & I'm sure some others didn't know about the neck until after this happened at Kokomo.

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
USAC has a Chief Appellate Judge and a USAC Court of Appeals?

Maybe the neck was in bad shape and after the deal at Kokomo Levi feared there was a payback coming and didn't want to risk more injury to the neck. Just a thought and no I don't think Jon S would look for a payback on that way. Just throwing a different angle at it.

Just saying what I heard. But we have a friend of the family very close to Levi. And he told him he was not going to race full time any more. He was going to run one of the family owned rural kings and race from time to time....

Don't forget to blame them for the troubles in the Middle East, the weather, and the flu this winter!

Re: USAC/L. Jones penalty
I wasn't there so I have no opinion on what happened. But does any thing that "Chief Appellate Judge Jeff Stoops" does surprise anyone. He and the board is letting Miller run USAC in the ground.
