Little 500

I just read on Facebook that the Little 500 was going to be streamed on DIRTVision. I will still be watching this live, which in my opinion is one of the greatest races in Indiana. 🏁

Looks like the whole 500 Sprint Car Tour will be on DirtVision. Oh the irony.

Living here in MA makes it difficult for me to go to the races in person. I've had Flo for a couple of years now and enjoy it. However, I'm not able to justify the expense of following just one series. Oh well, life goes on :(

Last 8 years or so, it has gotten to the point where it is packed. With no general admission, I don't want to miss it.

In spite of so many of my friends, like Brent for instance, telling me how great it is, I just can’t seem to pull the trigger and go see it in person. I actually amaze myself a how little I care for pavement these days. But I subscribe to Dirtvision also so we will probably have it on

Little 500 is one of those races you have to see in person,tv doesn’t do it justice!:22:

Moreland76 3/8/24 11:30 PM

Steve, I concur with Funk , you need to see it in person at least once!! I had only been there once before I crewed there and it is addictive race.

Same here.... Funk convinced me to go a few years back (he knows his stuff) but it didn't do it for me either. Not into pavement & WAY too confusing to follow the competition. Winner was several laps ahead...
But to each his own.... all y'all have a blast! :23:

I started going to the Little 500 because I was in town for the Indy 500 but now I go to the Indy 500 because I am in town for the Little 500

flagboy55 3/9/24 11:21 AM

Okie, speaking of the big 500, actually this year because of Kyle’s attempt at winning the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, my son and I are contemplating going to both. So it looks to me like it really doesn’t matter where you sit in Anderson for the race, would that be true?

100% agree with this.

I have been fortunate enough to attend four little 500's.
It is a more complex race than 'just 500 laps of going round' watching lapped cars move through the field along with effect of pit stops and traffic in the closing 100 laps along with cars, motors, tires, drives being able to survive this punishing endurance race really really doesn't portray on TV.

I used to tune in on Floracing as it's the Little 500, but it never came close to being there, no where near (but in all honesty what racing does? Be there or be square)

Disappointed I won't be able to watch it this year. Sure. Outraged, certainly not.
DirtVision doesn't carry enough to interest me so not worth a subscription even just for the month.
- you pay your money, you make your choice -

Disappointed at losing the 500 tour series as well. Not my goto series, but always nice to watch delayed courage mid-week.

Regarding tickets for the 500 I always brought in advance in reserved seating areas, turns 1 & 2. Great views and less head swiveling.

Hopefully I'll be able to clock up my 5th Little 500 in 2025.

The Little "500" is one of the greatest races in the WORLD

I have been to Le Mans France for the 24 hour grind. I have seen Tin Top 500's, over 30 open wheel 500's, and nothing compares to the Little 500.

If the Government ever caught wind of it, they would shut it down. It's hard to win and it's frickin' DANGEROUS

TQ29m 3/10/24 12:47 PM

Everything that has been said and more, not a pavement fan, but have been to this one as a crew member and as an observer, it is "different "

snowdrift 3/10/24 2:22 PM

Standing in infield on a crew there is nothing else like it when the drop the green 33 cars come alive

motorhead748 3/11/24 6:37 AM

I think I want to go at least once. But what is kinda holding me back is some years ago, maybe 10-15 they had a race there on January 1, it was a nice enough day for me to ride my motorcycle there even if it was just stock cars. It was highly entertaining and I thought, man I’ve got to come to a sprint car race here it’d be awesome! So in April I think it was they had a sprint car show & I went and was kinda disappointed.

The Little 500 is not a Pavement Sprint Car Sprint Race it's a Pavement Sprint Car Endurance Race. Like what napcar used to be an endurance of man & machine (Test Cricket).
If that doesn't float your boat then you'll mostly likely hate it.

Only one Little 500.

* Little 500 is a lot more entertaining and watchable than napcar

** No stage racing BS or competition cautions either.

*** It's smells fantastic 😁

TQ29m 3/11/24 12:32 PM

Very Good summary of the race, it is very much an endurance game,I have a friend who seldom misses running it, which makes it more interesting

I was sitting with 2 highly respected promoters 4 years ago. They were amazed that the insurance company hadn't shut it down.

At a guess I'd say this event bank rolls the entire season for the speedway.

Isn’t it the highest paying (to win) sprint car race in Indiana now?

BrentTFunk 3/11/24 6:54 PM

I thought it paid pretty good. I don't remember the exact amount.

cowboyhar69 3/11/24 7:11 PM

Over $137,000 purse….. $25K to win, $2500 to start.

Pretty good up top and It looks decent back. But 900 a set of tires and that was two years ago price quoted by a owner, Times how many? At least four or five sets. plus you buy their fuel.

Still on a Chili Bowl of Pavement sprint level. It's a sellout event.

Sprint Car Smackdown at Kokomo pays $30,000-to-win for USAC Sprint Cars. Plus a $500 bonus for each lap led. Justin Grant collected $44,500 on the final night of the event in 2023.

My late great buddy Jack French built a special car for this event. It paid off as his car won this event several times.

Jack was a real character whom I miss very much. I had alot of fun working and hanging out with him.

RIP my Friend

I enjoy the whole week of the Little 500. Interesting to watch as the drivers and teams work to gain speed prior to qualifying. Then they work on race strategy in preparation for the race. For me it culminates with the race. I’ve been going for over 30 years and take my grandkids with me, wouldn’t miss it.

I absolutely love the Little 500 but it definitely has the feel that something really, really bad will happen someday.

Re: Little 500

Well this will be my 34th year. Few things I can add to what people are saying:
1. if you haven't been in the last 5 to 6 years, the race has totally changed. It so much more competitive now. Really don't have cars riding around the bottom getting lapped every 5 laps. Its a fight just to make the field.
2. all of the top teams have really picked up there game. Its much harder now to get on a lap by yourself. Pit strategy is huge. No perfect science to it either.
3. ENDURANCE is the word. Top cars wreck out every single year. Someone in the top 5 always has a pit mistake.
4. Its almost like some teams have figured out how to make there cars get better as the race goes on. Its probably more that there cars don't fall off like most others. Every year someone becomes a rocket ship in the last 200. How big of a hole did they dig themselves in the first 300?

I love this race. I absolutely hate the track management. The management has destroyed the place. This race funds there year. Very little money is put back into the place. The track mismanagement is what holds this race back. I grew up here. This is the only time I visit the track each year.

Thought there was a five million in improvements plan going on, last time I was there they had new grandstands in turn three.

lol go look at the construction on those! You will be less than impressed, unless they have had work done to them since the race last year. trying to think, they were hastily put up 2 or 3 years ago. Used bleachers from another track. Wish I still had my pictures of them. The owner has done some good things for open wheel, but he is a stock car fan. He does not understand why his redbud race is not bigger than the sprint car race. That came directly from his mouth.
