Humbug, IT's just wrong with racing today (Add yours)

I'll start.
It's just wrong there is no Hut Hundred anymore. Yet hundred lappers happen elsewhere.

Hoosier Fall classic with the ASCOC at the burg

Hoosier 100 at the Indy mile!

ISF 12/22/21 8:26 AM

Fan support for the great racing of the Silver Crown division on the 2 Illinois 1 mile dirt tracks is so low. Humbug indeed!

dsc1600 12/22/21 9:25 AM

Dirt late models race for 10x the money non-winged sprints do.

Good thread Charles. For me, it's my physical limitations that make it very difficult to attend any races nowadays. Yeah I know about Flo and all the other streaming providers, but there is nothing, NOTHING, like being there in person. Well there is my living room recliner's close proximity to the concession stand otherwise known as our kitchen.🙂 In all seriousness, I wish each member of IOW a blessed and peaceful Christmas.

Losing our Dad in November, he will not be at the track ever again with my brother and I to help us at the track and watch us race. That my friends is a Humbug that will never go away for me.

TQ29m 12/22/21 11:49 AM

He will be there, if you have him on your mind, memories are wonderful company.

Coming from a person who has been battling health problems since February, and lost his job from not being able to return in a reasonable time. Maybe it would be more appropriate at this time of year to concentrate on the good things. We all claim to love the sport, but focus our energies to tear it down. Maybe if we were more positive, it would carry over.
I am thankful to be alive. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to say that not long ago. I want to thank everyone who participates in the sport in any way for providing me a distraction from life's problems. I have been going to races for quite a while, and the last 6 or 7 years, the on track product has never been better. Can't wait to get back to the track. My goal is March at DuQuoin. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, and hope for good things for all.

Really wasn't meant to be a personal post. Just a whats wrong or Not happening in Racing post.
Glad you're on the mend Brent

Feel free to post a tidings and good cheer post.
Until then, HUMBUG. There's only two dirt miles left for Champ Cars.

It was even more wrong when USAC tried to do it at a different track. Midgets lined up three wide at Terre Haute is the way it was meant to be.

Yeah, I loved Turkey Night at Perris much more than the current thing. But at least we still have it. Not that it's bad now, But wide open speed on the bigger tracks does it for me.

And the person who could have saved the Indy mile was treated like royalty at the PRI show. Hopefully Illinois will not use their mile tracks to subsidize the casino industry.
Speaking of the Hut Hundred were you at the last one? It wasn't very crowded

Very sorry for your loss. I have always enjoyed seeing you race. I appreciate the commitment that people like you make. Thought are with your family

Having to drive 7 to 8 hours for a USAC show. Living in WI makes it hard but it's worth the effort. This year WI has 3 so thats nice.

They would be lucky to get 24 cars on a big half mile these days. That's why it doesn't happen.

Did you ever race in that one? Dad missed the show by one or two spots in like 03. Was a good time. We went to watch a couple other times...hated it we missed KO's win in 97 (I think)

I ran the Hut 100 at Terre Haute in 2000 when NAMARS was sanctioning it. There was well over 40 cars there for it with a lot of Badger guys. That was actually my first race in a midget outdoors. My first time in the car was the 2000 Chili Bowl.

Speaking of NAMARS, I miss the 5 Crown.

It’s just wrong that sprint cars don’t race at the high banks of Salem and Winchester any longer. My first true Sprint car race was at Salem in July of 1967. Watching the sprint cars on the high banks scared the hell out of me, but I loved it, and I miss it.

opnwhlmnd 12/23/21 3:26 AM

It's wrong that I may have to start a Go Fund Me to get The Demon to sprint week this year. He told me if I could come up with some funding he would come this year. I got some put together but need more.
Grrrrrr

Scott Daloisio 12/23/21 7:55 AM

Charles, the last time we had Turkey Night at Perris, only 22 cars showed up. The handwriting was on the wall and it was time to get the race to a smaller track. The bah humbug for 2021 was losing a few races early in the year. The thankful part of 2021 was getting to race from April on uninterrupted after only getting one race in, in 2020.

flagboy55 12/23/21 12:30 PM

My bah humbug is that there’s not a dedicated interstate highway between lake county Indiana and Haubstadt. Have only been able to make it there once and loved it. On a side note, if my memory is correct they ran the Hut Hundred at LPS and the Burg right?

From what I can determine, the Hut Hundred was contested at Terre Haute, Lawrenceburg, Tri-State Speedway and Lincoln Park Speedway. The 2013 Hut Hundred was scheduled to occur at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL, but was not held. The 2013 race was to be a co-sanction event with POWRi and USAC sanctions.

It's just wrong .. .... so many "fans" focus entirely on car count. almost like they never watch the race :22:
