V6 Cars at Little 5

Who had the V6 power plants?

miwingless 5/30/17 1:51 PM

All 3 Nolan cars (Swanson, Coons, Hollingsworth) and one other. I believe it was the 97 car, don't remember the driver

Yes the 3 Nolen cars and the other one was Chris Jagger but he didn't make the race he was the 2nd alternate

What make and size v6's would those be? Injected?

There are several different options on parts, I think every Nolan motor is a bit different setup. All based on GM V6 tho, one has Kinsler injection one has a GM TBI throttle body that has been gutted. No idea on block or heads but I'd guess Brodix? Cubic inch is probably in the 300-360 range

All great info, thanks everyone!

Any speculation on power produced by this combination?

Re: V6 Cars at Little 5

Apparently tons of power! Swanson had em covered. I'd guess 540 to 620hp

badcoupe 5/30/17 8:40 PM

I can find out probably roughly related to the neibel v6's

#1jackhewittfan 5/31/17 10:39 AM

Didn't one of the yellow and black cars have a v6 the 59 or 12

Re: V6 Cars at Little 5

Has a V6 car won the Little 5?

Bayless74 5/31/17 2:11 PM

Bob Frey and Bentley Warren in Neibel's cars won w/V6

THS 5/31/17 3:14 PM

I'm guessing 4.3 with Chevy Performance or Brodix heads? Would the injection be a one off build for the head they are running? I know Chevy Performance offers an 18* aluminum head for the 4.3 but I would be interested in finding out more info on the injection set up. If anyone has more info please post or PM. Thanks!

All the engines in Nolen's cars were originally built at Niebel's. Bill Tranter is now building them. They are GM aluminum blocks. I don't remember which heads they have on them. Kinsler and Hilborn used to make the injection set up we used.

. I don't know if that is the same throttle body set-up that was on Nolen's silver crown engine. If it is the one that we built it is an old Holley carburetor with the ends epoxied shut.

I think it was a ex-Kenny Irwin motor/car? Helped Brent Beauchamp at Little 5 a few yrs ago, no idea which car has that motor now.

Younger viewers may not remember that NASCAR Busch series(Xfinity) used V6 engines for years. Injection is readily available from Kinsler.

I remember the Goody's Dash Series, didn't that consist of 4 and 6 cylinder cars? You're right though, I don't recall Busch running V6 cars.

Dash cars were 4 cylinders only.. at least in the beginning.

I couldn't tell Swanson had a v6 in his car till he got out front.

The old Busch GN cars with the v6's had a cool sound going down the backstretch at IRP.!!!

The series started in 1973 as the Baby Grand National Racing Association it was also called International Sedan Series before NASCAR Dash Series. Both 4 and 6 cylinder engines were used in the series at different time. I saw them run at Dover in the late 70's as the International Sedan Series.

Dave Stacey is probably best known for sticking his into Lake Loyd during Speedweeks.

They did in the early 90's. Changed back to V8's in '95. Dash started as 4's and moved to V6's in later 90's I believe.
