MTQRL - Callie Wolsiffer Wins at Shelbyville

Callie Wolsiffer Closes Out the 2015 MTQRL Season with a Win at Shelbyville

Callie Wolsiffer capped off a dream season on Saturday night at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind. when she scored her first three-quarter midget feature win with the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com.

Wolsiffer, a 20-year old rookie from New Palestine, Ind., had nine top-five feature finishes in eleven starts, including a trio of runner-up finishes, and never finished outside the top-ten. She won five of twelve Perfect North Slopes heat races, a Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel, finished second in the season standings and was the 2015 Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year.

Will Nedderman started the 25-lap feature on the pole and led the field to the green flag. Nedderman looked to be in control until lap five when he spun in turn two. Nedderman’s misfortune handed the lead to fellow front row starter Logan Arnold who held the point on the restart over Nick Speidel, Wolsiffer, defending MTQRL champion Cody Kiewitt and Ronnie Combs.

On the ninth lap, the caution would waive for debris in turn two setting up an unfortunate series of events. After the field was given the furled flag signaling green flag next time by, and the race leaders entered turn three anticipating the green flag, an official entered the racing surface in turn two to retrieve additional debris. With an official in the middle of the racing surface, a decision was made to abort the start.

Due to the location of the official the yellow flag was waived and a caution was called as the race leaders accelerated out of turn four. The normal procedure for aborting a start is to waive a lazy green and then call for a caution period when the field is on the backstretch. With the number one concern being the safety of the person in turn two, this was not possible and the caution period commenced immediately.

With cars accelerating and then slowing Combs narrowly avoided running over Kiewitt on the inside of the front stretch. As cars went high they began to stack up with Bobby Walton getting turned sideways and flipping. After exiting the car Walton was attended to by medical personnel and taken in the ambulance to the pit area for observation.

When racing resumed Arnold continued to hold the point over Speidel & Wolsiffer. The caution would waive on lap eleven for a Chris Mann spin in turn four, on lap seventeen when Rick Robinson and Nedderman spun in turn four, and again on lap twenty-two when Dan Newell spun in turn two.

Arnold continued to lead the field on all restarts and was able to pull away from Speidel after a lap or two of green flag racing. Speidel continued to lead Wolsiffer with Combs passing Kiewitt for fourth place on lap fourteen.

As the leaders entered turns one and two on the penultimate lap Speidel made contact with Arnold. Arnold slid to a stop off the racing surface bringing out the final caution period of the race. Speidel, who was on probation due to previous instances of rough driving - including an incident with Arnold in June, was subsequently disqualified.

With the field circling the track under caution Speidel refused to leave the racing surface. The race was red flagged and Speidel was removed from the front stretch and excluded from the racing event.

The race was restarted and Wolsiffer led the final two laps in the #14T Tony Stewart Racing / Acro Racing / Adams Engines / Tony Stewart Foundation / Asher Pallets / Jen Mascaro / Slinkard Racing Kawasaki powered Beast. Ronnie Combs trailed his teammate to the checkers followed by Cody Kiewitt, Aaron Percell and Brayton Leisure. Chris Mann, Rob Walton, Kevin Blue, Dan Newell and Joey Paxson completed the top ten.

Chris Mann was the Steed Motorsports Hard Charger improving twelve positions, Bobby Walton the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver, and Callie Wolsiffer was the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race.

In a very competitive qualifying session that saw the top five separated by less than 2/10th of a second, Nick Speidel set quick time after laying down a lap of 17.642 seconds, just 0.016 seconds faster that Brett Hankins.

With the setting sun causing problems for drivers to see entering turn one, the program was halted for approximately 15 minutes to allow the sun to sink below the horizon. When racing resumed Nick Speidel won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel, Qualifying Race winners were Dennis Atchley and Rick Robinson, and Perfect North Slopes heat winners were Speidel, Callie Wolsiffer and Aaron Percell.

The 2015 MTQRL championship was decided when Ronnie Combs signed in for the evening. Combs led the league with five feature wins, was the Tony Stewart Foundation Leader of the Pack after leading 91 of 245 feature laps, the MTQRL Quick Time Champion after posting the fastest cumulative qualifying time, and the Steed Motorsports Hard Charger after passing 31 cars in eleven races even though his average starting position in the feature was a 5.18.

In addition to being named the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year Callie Wolsiffer led the league in heat race wins and was the Perfect North Slopes Heat Race Champion.

Rick Robinson won four of eight Duel for Fuels and was the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel Champion. Additional awards including the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Award, MTQRL Spirit Award, and the SSG Jeremy W. Doyle Most Improved Driver Award will be presented at the annual awards banquet.

The Midwest TQ Racing League would like to thank the car owners, drivers, officials, promoters, sponsors, photographers and fans for their support during the 2015 race season.

Congratulations Callie! Way to close out a successful season.

Rhewitt 9/13/15 7:31 PM

Yes stopping them for the sun was a good and smart move that was the only smart move of the night and no raceing club is perfect but when u have an official that is not smart enough to get the trash off the track the first time he waited till they held up the perl flag when the last car goes by turn 2 he decided to go back met on the track after they said over the radio we r going green so the first few cars came out of turn 4 with the green flag out standing on the gas pedal then they throw the yellow flag and then they had a pile up and trashed a car disqualified a car wich from the grand stands lookf like a clean pass and then the guy pullf over and stopped and got out of his car ame walked up on the track and of course the same corner worker that made the call to disqualify the other driver didn't c the driver walk onto track u thought something would of been done bout that but I guess not the raceing was great just takes them to long to get the show going and if a car spins it take forever to get them pushed off they have one maybe two officials that need replaced

Kenneth.Howard13 9/13/15 9:45 PM

I thought rubbing was racing. I remember similar instances happening in the UMRA an u seen what happend. If you can't take getting rubbed a little bit with the big boys then keep your car in the garage. Sounds like they got it out for certain drivers. As far as the debris caution people make mistakes. Unfortunately that mistake cost some racers some money but that's when the officials need to go back during the off season an discuss there procedures.

TqMidget41&84 9/13/15 10:49 PM

Kenneth, how many times have you been taken out while leading a race?I'm not talking a bumper tap to be moved out of the way. I have a feeling you'd feel different if you were in their shoes.

That Speidel guy sounds like a real bad ass racer. He passes cars.:8::6:

Slider20 9/14/15 11:17 AM

Yeah as someone who doesn't follow the TQ scene, it definitely sounds like they have it out for him.

Re: MTQRL - Callie Wolsiffer Wins at Shelbyville

I have raced against Nick and I think he's a great driver. Me personally I have only seen one instance were he went in a little to hot and side slammed someone at north vernon. I have never seen him go out and try to tear someones equipment up on purpose. A lot of people who go to shelbyvilles track knows that its not well lit and it gets really dusty there. The MTQRL i think just needs to do a better job on getting the shows going in a timely manner. The holding up the dash was a good idea because of the sun. I think more push off's are needed for sure.

TqMidget41&84 9/14/15 1:33 PM

Yeah if you weren't at the track and actually see all this go down its pretty easy to believe what you read. But there are two sides to each story, just very ironic the same driver has been part of the same "story" 3 years in a row.

I would be on here complimenting the officials as well if one of my cars was able to do this (picture below) not only once, without a DQ or penalty. It happens to be one of only two cars who went to every one of their races this season. It shows it matters who you are when running this series. The series showing up with 11 cars at kokomo, since there were other places to race that day, showed the direction the series is heading. As far as the pass for lead Saturday, there was no contact. Veterans looked at both cars and no damage or marks, the other driver didn't even spin or wreck, just stopped out of the corner. The series then allowed him to go on track to flip me off in turn 2 under yellow, followed by his dad going on to track on backstretch to flip me off under yellow, followed by driver going onto backstretch after that to flip me off again, and no one said a word. They then proceeded to go up to my mother standing at the backstretch fence and cuss her out and yell at her knowing she was helpless just having surgery and not a word said. I did not say a word to anyone after race. To top it off, the series with held the contingency sponsored awards businesses give them for fast time, dash win, and heat wins, I'm going to persue claiming them myself from the sources.there is another thread on here from a different guy on his view of how their races are conducted. No one stands up to all the political B.S. from them and when writing articles trying to make me look like a bad guy and allowing the other driver and father to go on track multiple times and yell at my mom, I will put this all out there and if no one ever talks to me at track again I'll have my family to enjoy the races with. I do appreciate the support from people in the stands and everyone who came to the trailer. My hero growing up was there and said it was all b.s. and complimented my whole night and driving and that meant everything to me and meant more than winning the race would of anyway. Nick speidel

MTQRL Rulebook
Rule 6.16 Effect of Exclusion – The person sentenced to exclusion shall be prohibited from any participation, either directly or indirectly, in all or the remaining part of a race meeting. Persons under sentence of exclusion will not be issued credentials of any kind and the privileges and uses of the course and the pit area will be denied. In all cases, exclusion shall entail the forfeiture of entry fees paid or payable, as well as the forfeiture of any awards earned during the sanctioned competition that shall accrue to the Midwest TQ Racing League.

I personally spoke to the sponsor of the MTQRL Quick Time Award and explained that as per the MTQRL rule book the $40 cash award would not be presented because the driver had been excluded. I told them the league would refund the $40 back to the sponsor.

The sponsor stated they did not want the money back & to add it to the award the Quick Time Champion will receive at the banquet.

TqMidget41&84 9/14/15 3:27 PM

Nick, so are you also saying there wasn't any contact on the white flag lap going into turn 3 in this video? Nick driving the black 39 not Kyle May.

And I guess while I was behind you and Arrington at Colunbus a few years ago there wasn't contact made there either when you both almost flipped from your dive bomb move? Maybe my eyes are just giving up on me.

I can't comment on the first time you got into Logan at shelbyville because I didn't see it first hand. But it's funny how everyone's story is the same except for the people that don't like MTQRL or your close friends. There's no "bad guys" here just people that respect other drivers and people that don't.

Brett Hankins

speidel21 9/14/15 3:34 PM

You wasn't at twin cities either to know the whole story, after the race I told the promoter it was his decision and I understood either way. Get the facts straight before posting.

TqMidget41&84 9/14/15 3:48 PM

"Slide job" is what you called it. Fact is the video shows how you drive. Guess you choose when to have and not have car control ?!?

speidel21 9/14/15 3:58 PM

That night I talked to promoter one on one and told him I knew what I done and would accept what he chose. I run 50-60 times a year for years now, one mistake isn't bad and admitted to. In the real world driving midgets and sprints there has not been one complaint on me. I like how your a Midwest dieharder and trying to get off subject, this is a discussion about what happened Saturday night. I know we have been friends but its time to get realistic on how the series is conducting races.

Kenneth.Howard13 9/14/15 4:07 PM

I ran with England's for a season. I didn't care where I finished it was just fun for me to get to go out and run a race car. That's the problem now days that I think everyone takes it so seriously. I wish I could run for a team again.

TqMidget41&84 9/14/15 4:10 PM

That's the problem you only admit to one mistake ? This has happened 4 times in the last 3 years. Accidents happen we all have caused them and all been involved in them. When it's your fault you try to make it right by apologizing which is the last thing that you have tried to do. Keep up that bad boy image you want cause it sure gets you a lot respect from other drivers. And if MTQRL is so bad at running their show why do you keep coming back? So you can solute the crowd as they boo you? Hate to break it to you bud but that's not a good thing.

speidel21 9/14/15 4:18 PM

The other three were all with Midwest and bogus, the same series that tried to stop me from running UMRA in 2010 when I was their points leader, would make their series look bad running with their competition. For awhile I was the only one who ran both series so I had the bullseye target, no further explanation needed Now back to Saturday nights discussion, everything else that occurred Sat night should be swept under the rug?

TqMidget41&84 9/14/15 4:23 PM

So Arrington and Logan wrecked all on their own? No contact was made from you?

Sandy Lowe 9/14/15 4:25 PM

Time out for a quick fact check:

You finished the 2010 season in 8th place - 1,017 points behind the champion.

speidel21 9/14/15 4:29 PM

Yes, I was.start of season, car owner received a phone call as I was getting ready for a umra race at Montpelier. We ran several umra races that season so was behind on points.

speidel21 9/14/15 4:33 PM

Must have some car control, almost 60 wins the past four or five years. no one is wanting to discuss everything else that went on Saturday night, surprisingly. Time to put the popcorn up and its time to get off here and prepare for this weekend's race.

TqMidget41&84 9/14/15 4:36 PM

Yep car control when you want to have it. I think the popcorn is burnt.

What i don't understand is why the MTQRL isn't blaming a Goff for this mess!

Re: MTQRL - Callie Wolsiffer Wins at Shelbyville

It's getting to the point where it is a habit. There are two sides to every story and I can remember when you took me out at Columbus you went on social media trying to say you didn't do anything wrong. The MTQRL group is a good group who cares about TQ racing. It's going to be a real shame if they are gone because for most people they are a great group who try to promote good, hard, clean racing. I wasn't there but I'm having a hard time accepting that what you did was as you say considering the other three times when I was a witness or recipient of one.

Mrs G 9/14/15 5:38 PM

Folks, this is not the purpose of this board! Personal issues should be taken elsewhere.

Discuss procedures?mostly the same officials that have been doing this for years.they all have radios on their heads.use them.

Speaking of burnt popcorn.there are some pots calling the kettle black, here.

Kenneth.Howard13 9/14/15 8:15 PM

That's what I mean by procedures bc it seemed like they let one slip. Mistakes happen but you go through procedures in the off season to make sure something like that won't happen again to keep officials an drivers safe...agree?

This thread is such a great example of why a number of people I know say they have stopped posting on IOW. What started out as a story about Callie winning the race and my congratulations to her has turned into a gripe session. If you want to complain, why don't you start another thread and not hijack a positive one?

Great to see Callie get a win. She didn't take long to start putting herself in a position to get a win and I figured it would come before the season was over. My little girl loves racing and really looks up to her.

For one,Sandy started this thread. For two,it's not only about congrats to Callie it is also a rundown/story of the whole nights events,so people can comment on any or all parts of the story that they choose.

I think you're bit confused.this isn't Napcar.rubbing is racing may work with fender cars.rubbing while racing with open wheels is an accident waiting to be caused.
